What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional medical treatment in which very fine needles are inserted at specific points on the body. These points lie along so-called meridians through which the body’s energy flow is influenced. The aim is to relieve pain, reduce muscle tension, and activate the body’s self-healing powers.

Typical Areas of Application

  • Back pain, for example due to muscle tension or disc problems
  • Neck pain and stress-related tension
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Knee osteoarthritis, to relieve pain and stiffness
  • Tennis elbow or other overuse-related complaints
  • Supportive therapy for muscular imbalances in sports

What is Trigger Point Therapy?

Trigger point therapy is a manual treatment technique that focuses on what are known as myofascial trigger points – painful, knotted areas in the muscles that often radiate into other parts of the body. Through targeted pressure or needling, these points are released, circulation is improved, and the muscle is relaxed.

Specific Examples

  • Radiating neck pain extending into the head (often caused by trigger points in the trapezius muscle)
  • Shoulder pain, for example caused by trigger points in the deltoid muscle or rotator cuff
  • Lower back pain in the lumbar spine area due to tight back extensor muscles
  • Sciatica-like pain caused by muscular issues, for example trigger points in the piriformis muscle
  • Painful forearms in musicians, office work, or sports, for example due to trigger points in the forearm extensors
  • Headaches originating from the cervical spine, triggered by tight neck muscles
